An unprecedented explosion of revenues
Financially, the 2025 African Cup of Nations broke all records. The tournament generated 200 million dollars in revenue, more than double the 2023 Ivory Coast edition ($98 million) and forty times more than Cameroon 2021 ($5 million). This vertiginous progression, more than 90% increase compared to the last edition, illustrates the rise in power of the AFCON product, now capable of competing with certain international competitions in terms of economic attractiveness.
An event that has become a major commercial product
Moroccan success was also measured by the enthusiasm of partners. 23 sponsors accompanied the 2025 edition, compared to 16 in 2023 and only 6 in 2021. This leap forward reflects the growing confidence of brands in the competition, now perceived as a credible, structured and profitable continental platform under the auspices of the Confederation of African Football .
A global visibility in strong progression
Another key indicator: dissemination. 111 broadcasters and rights holders broadcast the 2025 edition worldwide, compared to 67 during the Ivorian edition and 38 in Cameroon. This record coverage confirms the expansion of the competition’s audience well beyond the African continent and strengthens its status as a global football event.
A massive popular success
The AFCON 2025 did not only shine in financial reports. It also won over the public. More than one million supporters were counted in the nine stadiums of the tournament, a historic figure. The final alone attracted 66,526 spectators, a symbol of popular enthusiasm rarely achieved in the competition’s history.
A new standard for the future
With these figures, Morocco 2025 establishes itself as the most successful edition in the history of the AFCON, both economically and in terms of media and popular appeal. It now serves as a reference for future organizations. The pressure is already strong on the next edition, scheduled for summer 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, called to confirm or exceed this record legacy.
One thing is certain: the competition has changed its dimension. And Morocco 2025 will remain the tipping point.
