The African Road Cycling Championships open on Wednesday 21 October 2026 in Kisumu, Kenya, and finish on Sunday 25. The programme moves from the time trial to the relay, then to the road races. The elite individual races start between 9:30 and 12:30 Brazzaville time. Kenyan clocks are two hours ahead.
Action begins on Wednesday
Tuesday 20 October is set aside for accreditation, rider confirmation and team meetings. The first races are scheduled for Wednesday 21, with the individual time trials. Each rider covers the course separately; the standings are decided by the time recorded rather than by the order of arrival of a bunch.
The junior women open the day over 10.2 kilometres, followed by the junior men over 20.4 kilometres. For the elites and under-23s, the distances rise to 30.6 kilometres for the women and 40.8 kilometres for the men. The last two events are due to start at 13:00 and 14:30 in Kenya, which is 11:00 and 12:30 in Brazzaville.
From the relay to the mass-start races
On Thursday 22 comes the mixed time trial relay, scheduled for 9:00 in Kenya, or 7:00 in Brazzaville, over a stated distance of 40.8 kilometres. This time the title is decided collectively. The day also includes the youth road races, ahead of the junior races on Friday 23: 68.8 kilometres for the girls and 119.8 kilometres for the boys.
The elite and under-23 races fill the weekend. On Saturday 24, the women are due to start at 12:30 Kenyan time, or 10:30 in Brazzaville, for 122.2 kilometres. On Sunday 25, the men are expected at 11:30 in Kenya, or 9:30 in Brazzaville, over 175.2 kilometres. In a road race, the riders set off together: the first across the line wins, unlike the time-based ranking of a time trial.
An entry is not yet a start
The provisional list, closed on 7 October, includes Uganda's Charles Kagimu in both individual events. Rwanda's Moïse Mugisha and Eric Muhoza are also listed for the time trial and the road race, as is Algeria's Yacine Hamza. Team confirmations could still change these entries before the competition.
The Wednesday time trial and the weekend road races award separate titles, with no shared overall classification. Start times and distances remain subject to adjustment.
