At 25, Antoine Semenyo has reached a pivotal moment in his career, with the Ghana forward facing a big decision this summer: stay at Bournemouth, or leave the Cherries to take the next step at a more ambitious club.
A record season
In his second season in the top flight with Bournemouth, Antoine Semenyo has comfortably exceeded expectations. The Black Stars winger produced the best season of his career so far, with 13 goals and 7 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions. To find a campaign in which he was involved in 20 goals, you have to go back to 2021-2022, when he was playing in the Championship with Bristol City. But reaching those numbers in the Premier League carries far more weight, and the interest from England's big clubs underlines his new status.
The Cherries' second most decisive player behind Dutchman Justin Kluivert (13 goals and 8 assists in 39 games), Semenyo is in demand on the market and can pick his next club.
Wanted by Tottenham and Manchester United
Among the clubs queuing up for the Ghanaian winger, Manchester United and Tottenham are at the front of the line. As revealed by The Athletic, the Spurs have made enquiries about Antoine Semenyo in recent days, with a view to signing him if they fail to land Bryan Mbeumo. But the Europa League winners must contend with competition from Manchester United, who are set to lose Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho this summer and need to strengthen in attack.

However, Bournemouth have no intention of doing suitors for their left winger any favours. Again according to The Athletic, the Cherries are looking for close to €70 million before letting their Ghanaian forward go, although they are not closed to possible talks over a discounted but reasonable price, given the Ghanaian's talent and room for improvement. Liverpool and Newcastle are also on his trail.
Leaving to take the next step
This summer, Bournemouth will lose most of the architects of their fine 2024-2025 season. Defensive leader Dean Huijsen has already left for Real Madrid, while another key centre-back, Ukrainian Illia Zabarnyi, is only waiting for his club and PSG to agree a deal so he can join the European champions. Meanwhile, Liverpool are moving forward on Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez. These departures will weaken the Cherries, who cannot be sure of repeating that season next time round.
Against that backdrop, Antoine Semenyo would do well to join a more ambitious club where he can compete for a place with the best players in the world in his position, and for trophies. Technically gifted and increasingly clinical in front of goal, Semenyo has gained enough experience to aim higher and bigger. Last season, he finished 3rd in the Premier League dribblers' rankings (67), behind his compatriot Mohammed Kudus (91) and Manchester City's Belgian, Jeremy Doku (107), according to figures from Datamb.
In an interview with Showmax in early June, the Ghanaian spoke about his ambitions for the future and the prospect of playing in the biggest European competitions, saying he was ready for the next step. "I'd love to. I pray a lot about it, and I'd like to think my performances show that I'm ready to move on to the next step, but I think it's every player's dream to play in European competitions, so why not?", Antoine Semenyo said, in comments reported by Ghanasoccernet. And Bournemouth should not stand in his way if a good offer lands on the table. To be continued...
