All of Italy held its breath in the 70th minute when Evan Ndicka collapsed on the pitch at the Bluenergy Stadium, clutching his chest in severe pain around the heart. Fearing the worst, players quickly raised the alarm and medics rushed on with a defibrillator. He was swiftly taken to hospital. In a subdued atmosphere, and at the request of Roma coach Daniele De Rossi, the referee decided to abandon the game between Udinese and Roma (1-1), played as part of matchday 32. A few hours later, AS Roma posted a photo on social media of the Ivory Coast international smiling, to reassure fans that he was feeling better. But tests were being carried out to establish whether there was a heart problem to worry about.

AS Roma announced on Monday 15 April that the African champion had left hospital with "no heart condition". The Italian club added: " The first- and second-level cardiological tests that were carried out revealed no heart condition," said Roma in their statement. "In light of the latest tests carried out on Monday morning, the clinical picture is consistent with chest trauma with a minimal left pneumothorax." The medical staff have cleared him to go home, but "further tests will be carried out later in Rome." It was more a scare than anything serious for Evan Ndicka, who can now rest and return to action soon. Perhaps he could even be on the pitch to finish that game against Udinese.
