They have been together since the last Afrobasket in September 2021, where the Elephants finished runners-up. They made it official with a two-year deal on Tuesday 14 March 2023 at the Canal+ Côte d'Ivoire offices in Abidjan. Canal+ now becomes the sponsor of the Ivorian Basketball Federation and of all its competitions. Canal+ will back and support the FIBB for the N1 top-flight league, the women's league, the youth league, as well as the All Star Game and all its other activities.
"Today is a special day because it seals a partnership that has been discussed for a long time. There are two main pillars to this agreement: sponsorship of the national team for all its competitions, and support for the national league. I wish this partnership a long life," said a delighted Aziz Diallo, managing director of Canal+ Côte d'Ivoire.
Five key points
"Our roadmap is built around 5 points: an efficient administration, training for all those involved, communication and events, sponsorship, and giving back. I'd like to take this opportunity to launch the campaign 'On the road to the World Cup and the 2024 Olympics'. We want to achieve five objectives: awareness, promoting Côte d'Ivoire, sending a thousand privately funded supporters to the World Cup, national and international pride through hosting an international tournament in Abidjan, and qualification for the Paris Olympics. Canal+ is leading the way so that other partners can support us too. Thank you all," said federation president Mahama Coulibaly in turn, offering his thanks.
