Originally scheduled to finish on 9 April, the Friendship Tournament will now end on 7 April 2023, with the Côte d'Ivoire men's and women's U16 teams taking part. After several months of hard work with the players, the head coaches have announced their selected squads. There will be 12 boys and 12 girls for the competition, which takes place at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maïga in Bamako, Mali.

Before leaving for Mali, the two staffs at the Palais des Sports made a point of putting the final tactics in place, with the players going over several revised plays on the afternoon of Wednesday 29 March. The U16 Friendship Tournament is an initiative of the Malian Basketball Federation. Alongside hosts Mali, three other nations have been invited: Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria and Guinea.
