Barely used this season by the Suns, Bismack Biyombo started last night's game against Philadelphia. With DeAndre Ayton absent, Monty Williams threw the Congolese into the starting 5. And the big man had a serious opponent across from him. He had to deal with Joel Embiid, who was coming off a huge game against Golden State (46 pts, 9 assists, 8 rebounds). Against all expectations, it was the Congolese who came out on top in this battle of African big men.
Phoenix won 125-105 and Bismack Biyombo posted a double-double with 17 pts (8/12 shooting) and 13 rebounds. Most notably, the 30-year-old grabbed 8 offensive rebounds. On top of that, his defence was phenomenal, as he recorded 5 blocks. The Congolese finished the game with the highest evaluation rating on Phoenix. At the other end, Joel Embiid put up numbers a little below his usual standards. The Cameroonian recorded 28 points and 10 rebounds but struggled with his shot (8/19).
In the standings, the Sixers, who suffered a second straight defeat, remain third in the East. They will rest this Sunday before taking on Denver on Monday. The Suns, fourth in the West, return to winning ways before travelling to face the Jazz this Monday.
