Inter return to Serie A with a twofold task: to maintain the consistency that has earned them 16 points from six games, and to respond to their 4–3 European defeat by Club Brugge. The trip to Bologna takes place this Saturday 17 October at the Renato Dall'Ara stadium, kicking off at 16:00 UTC, or 17:00 in Brazzaville, on matchday 7.

A leader's record, an attack to reorganise

With five wins and a draw in the league, the Milan side have built a solid base. Their most recent Serie A result, a 3–0 win over Parma, shows what they can produce when they combine efficiency with control. But the European game is a reminder that a productive attack is not enough if a match becomes too open.

The absence of Lautaro Martínez, injured after scoring twice against Brugge, changes Inter's attacking reference points. It is not simply a matter of replacing a name: Inter must redistribute responsibilities in the box and keep options open when a first attack breaks down. Marcus Thuram, who already has three league goals this season, is one of the players around whom that response can be built.

43 shots on target against 21: reading the gap

After six games, Inter have 43 shots on target in Serie A, against 21 for Bologna. The gap points to a more consistent ability to test the opposition goalkeeper; on its own, it does not predict the result at the Dall'Ara.

Our view is that the selection of attacks will matter as much as their volume. If the Milan side want to erase the imbalances seen in the European scoreline, they must avoid a missed chance turning immediately into a race towards their own goal. Favourites' status is no excuse for careless ball retention.

Bologna look to build on first win

The hosts go into this game with 5 points. After a 1–1 draw with Torino, they claimed their first league win of the season against Lecce, 2–1. Under Raffaele Palladino, those two results mark the start of a recovery, though one still too recent to be considered a lasting transformation.

Bologna must also do without Riccardo Orsolini. His absence removes an important attacking resource and raises the stakes for their collective creativity. Federico Bernardeschi is among the possible solutions; the line-up has yet to be confirmed. Morocco international midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi is also in the squad called up by Bologna.

The last nine league meetings between the two clubs are split evenly, with three wins each and three draws. That history is a reason to respect Bologna, but it is no substitute for analysing the present: an ambitious leader without its captain, facing a side still looking for continuity.
