ASFB go into the break in good form (4th in the provisional table), and it is largely thanks to Ousmane Siry, who has even set up six goals himself. Halfway through the 2024-2025 Faso Foot Ligue 1 season in Burkina Faso, one man is drawing all the attention: Ousmane Siry, a midfielder for Association Sportive des Fonctionnaires de Bobo-Dioulasso (ASFB). Originally a defensive midfielder, he is currently the top assist provider in Burkina Faso's top-flight national league with 6 assists.
Trained at Union Sportive de la Comoé de Banfora (USCO), Ousmane Siry is a former Rahimo FC player. "I started in 2013 with USCO de Banfora, the club where I developed. In 2016, I joined Rahimo FC when they were promoted to the top flight. We played in the league and finished 3rd at the end of the season. In 2017-2018, we were fighting to avoid relegation. In the 2018-2019 season, we won the league and Cup double," says Ousmane Siry.
With good vision, Ousmane Siry has a real hold over his team. A team player who can adapt to the rhythm of a match, the current Faso Foot Ligue 1 assist leader makes no secret of how he does it: "It all happens in training," he reveals.
Ousmane Siry currently plays an important part in ASFB's results thanks to his convincing performances and his status as the league's top assist provider, with 6 assists in 14 matches, but the collective ethos within the Bobo-Dioulasso Buffaloes squad also counts for a lot. "With my team-mates, the team comes first. We talk to each other all the time. That's what makes us strong," Siry explains.
Ahead of the restart for the second half of the season, Ousmane Siry and ASFB hope to maintain their level of performance. "The goal is still the same: to finish in the upper reaches of the table. I tell myself nothing is done yet. The end of the league season is still a long way off. We have to keep working. We'll see what happens," says Ousmane Siry.
Nothing is really decided yet. There is still work to do if they are to end the current season with both individual and collective honours.
