The fourth attempt is the right one for the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon. After falling short in the final in 2004, 2014, and 2016, the Cameroonian team finally lifts this trophy. Ngah Marie, Naomi Eto, Colette Ndzana... were spectacular during the final and enter the history books of women's football in the country.
A completely controlled first half
This was Cameroon’s most accomplished match at the 2026 Women's AFCON. Far from the typically physical and defensively compact team, Cameroon impressed with their play against Malawi in the final. It was an attacking strategy from Valentine Nguele, the coach of the Indomitable Lionesses. After the first 45 minutes, the Cameroonians killed any suspense by scoring three goals.
Cameroon opened the scoring in the 20th minute through forward Ngah Manga. Twisting and turning down the right wing, Naomi Eto doubled the lead in the 30th minute. After scoring on the second goal, Eto provided the assist for Ngah Manga's brace in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
A balanced second half
In the second half, Malawi readjusted. The Malawians were able to compete with the Cameroonians in open play. Despite this, they left spaces in defense. However, the Lionesses could not be as clinical as they were in the first 45 minutes. Ngah Manga and the other attacking players lacked composure.
The Cameroonian defense was present from start to finish. It repelled all of Malawi’s attacking surges. It neutralized Thabita Kawinga and Temwa Kawinga. The two attacking threats ran into a well-organized defense.
Solid defensively and efficient offensively, Cameroon logically dominates Malawi and wins the 2026 Women's AFCON on Moroccan soil.
