Morocco made a comfortable start to their Group F campaign at AFCON 2023. The Atlas Lions barely had to get out of second gear to beat Tanzania. The Moroccans dominated the Taifa Stars throughout the match. They took the lead from their first real chance, through captain Romain Saiss (30th). After a well-delivered free kick from Hakim Ziyech, Tanzanian goalkeeper Manula pushed the ball out into the path of Saiss, who only had to finish with the goal at his mercy. The semi-finalists at the last World Cup stepped up the pressure in search of a second goal, but to no avail. It was 1-0 when the two sides went in at the break.
Morocco more clinical in the second half
The Moroccans were more ruthless after the interval. Completely rattled, Tanzania even finished the match with 10 men. Already booked in the first half, Novatus Miroshi picked up a second yellow card for a late tackle on Azzedine Ounahi. He was sent off. The Atlas Lions took advantage and wrapped up the win in the closing minutes. From a fine team move, Ounahi played a one-two with Adli, who returned the ball first time. With the inside of his right foot, the Olympique Marseille midfielder sent the ball into the back of the net (78th). En-Nesyri knocked the stuffing out of the Tanzanians two minutes later (80th). Morocco have made a perfect start to AFCON 2023, where they are aiming for a second continental title.
