Part of the Stade de San Pedro, namely the press area, needs to be redone following CAF recommendations. With seven months to go until the 2023 AFCON, which will be played in January 2024, it is a fresh problem for the sporting and, above all, political authorities, who nonetheless remain optimistic.
"Indeed, CAF has asked for the media area to be relocated, if we can put it that way. It is right in the middle of the stadium and CAF wants it moved further out. But that does not mean we have to knock everything down. We carried out all the work according to CAF's specifications. Everything was followed to the letter. So we don't understand why, today, when we are up against the clock because there are seven months left, we are being told to change the location of an area. But we will see how to get all of this done quickly, because the AFCON is CAF's competition and everything has to be respected. It will all get done, but we need to see whether it requires an increase in the budget," said Mariam Yoda, Director General of the national sports office.
