The suspense ended on Monday night in Rabat. Eagerly awaited by a whole continent and by lovers and followers of African football, the AFCON 2025 group draw has delivered its verdict, with some top-drawer fixtures thrown in. The 24 nations taking part now know their fate and who they will face in the first round. That stage will see 36 matches played in just 10 days, from 21 to 31 December 2025.
Of note, for the first time, because of the greater number of stadiums (9 for this edition instead of 6), there will be 4 matches per day, starting from the 1st matchday of the group stage, instead of the usual three. Rest days are also planned on 25 December for Christmas, as well as for the New Year celebrations heading into 2026. The group stage ends on 31 December. The tournament resumes on 3 January with the round of 16 kicking off.
