The knockout stages get under way on Wednesday at the 26th Women's African Handball Championship, with the quarter-finals. The group stage of this edition was one of the highest-scoring in the history of the competition, with a total of 1534 goals scored across the 30 matches of this first round.

Angola, the only unbeaten team

As expected, Angola, four-time defending champions, dominated this opening phase of the competition. The Angolans finished top of Group B by winning all 5 of their group-stage matches. The African champions are the only side to have achieved that feat.

Among the other strong performers were Senegal, Congo, Egypt and Cameroon, who each won 4 matches out of 5. The host nation, DR Congo, managed to win only 3 matches.
