Koné Kassoum (91 kg), Ouattara Keletigui (-91 kg), Kouadio Kpithybe Joël (75 kg), Doumbia Aly (70 kg) and Soro Drissa (65 kg) in the men's events, and Yedoh Meledje (86 kg) in the women's, are the six Ivorian fighters who will fly the national flag at the upcoming Muay Thai World Championships, scheduled for 3 to 14 May 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. The delegation, led by coach Blao Jean Louis and his assistant Niava Mathieu, will arrive in the Thai capital in early May. Federation officials want the team to do better than the two bronze medals won at the Muay Thai World Championships in 2015.
“This competition will also mark the 30th anniversary of the international Muay Thai association. And for these 30 years, Ivory Coast, a founding member of this association, is aiming for at least silver, but above all gold,” said Arthur Bella, president of the Ivorian Federation of Muay Thai and Related Disciplines (Fimda). Received by Ivorian sports minister Danho Paulin on Wednesday 25 April, the fighters are determined to make a big impression in their 7th appearance at the competition.
