Stellenbosch knock out the holders
Zamalek are out in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. Stellenbosch FC were the ones who pulled it off, producing a superb performance over the two legs. After the 0-0 in South Africa in the first leg, the South African side pulled off a perfect smash-and-grab at Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday. A narrow 1-0 win, courtesy of a goal from Sihle Nduli (79th), sends the Stellies into the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Simba SC dispatch Al Masry in a nail-biter
A comeback for Simba SC. Beaten 2-0 in Egypt in the first leg, the Tanzanians made up the deficit in the return. At the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, the hosts won 2-0 thanks to Elie Mpanzu Kibisawala (22nd) and Steven Mukwala (32nd), before going through in the penalty shootout 4-1.
Moussa Camara, Simba SC's Guinea international goalkeeper, shone in that decisive shootout by saving two penalties.
No upset for ASEC against RS Berkane
ASEC Mimosas travelled to Morocco looking to pull off a surprise after the 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Félicia in Abidjan. The miracle did not happen. The Mimos suffered another defeat in the return at the Berkane municipal stadium. RS Berkane won 1-0 again. The only goal of the game was scored by Oussama Lamlioui in the 76th minute.
CS Constantine win the Algerian derby
The tie between CS Constantine and USM Alger lived up to expectations. It was finely balanced right to the end. After the 1-1 in the first leg, the two sides produced the same scoreline in the return on Wednesday at the Stade du 5-Juillet-1962. Adam Alilet opened the scoring in the 25th minute for USM Alger before Constantine levelled in the 56th minute through Abdennour Belhocini.
The shootout decided it, with CS Constantine coming out on top (4-3). They will face RS Berkane in the semi-finals.
