ASEC Mimosas were held to a draw by DC Motema Pembe on Sunday 12 February 2023 in their first group game of the CAF Confederation Cup, at the Stade de Yamoussoukro. For the Mimosas coach, his side's technical quality was their Achilles' heel in the match. "We lacked efficiency. We lacked technical accuracy. That's where our difficulties are. It's the technical precision in our exchanges and in our passing that is letting us down. Every week, we play on an artificial pitch, which slows the ball and the game down. Today, we played in a stadium with a superb pitch, but it wasn't watered in time," Julien Chevalier said at the post-match press conference. Although his side are not up against the wall, as it is only the first matchday, he feels there are no more calculations to be made for the rest of the competition. "You can come up with all the theories. We're only at the first matchday, we'll take stock at the end of the group games. Last year, we took 9 points at home but that didn't stop us from being eliminated. We have no calculations to make. We have to fight to win points away from home," he urged. The Mimosas' next opponents are Rivers United. They travel to Nigeria next week.
