The Ivorian Orienteering Federation (FICO) held its first National Cup last weekend. Two athletes emerged victorious: Mandah Ange Cédric and Kouléon Manuella. They covered 4.2 km to find the markers hidden along the course. The competition took place in the botanical garden in Bingerville, north of Abidjan.
After introductory practical and theoretical classes with the Tourism Ministry as part of ‘Week-end Loisir à Babi’, the federation has added another event to its programme with this new trophy.
"The National Cup is part of our competitions, and we managed to organise it with our limited resources to meet the needs of orienteers. We also took the opportunity to award certificates of recognition to the individuals and stakeholders who help our young federation operate. We would like to thank the sports federation presidents who came to support us and the General Directorate of Sports, which is always present at our activities", said FICO president Eugène Kouassi on Saturday 1 April.
More than a hundred orienteers responded to FICO's call to test themselves against the demanding reality of forest orienteering.
