After winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast last February, Sébastien Haller was expecting a second half of the season that would get him back on track with Dortmund. But the return to reality has been tough. After an ankle injury picked up at the AFCON, the Elephant was out for more than a month before returning to action, after the final against Nigeria (2-1), and made his comeback in the Bundesliga in a derby against Bayern Munich (2-0) on 30 March. Sadly, that troublesome ankle is playing up again. The 29-year-old striker was hurt in the same spot against Mönchengladbach. According to L'Equipe, barring a miracle, Sébastien Haller will be sidelined for a minimum of 3 weeks. That rules the Ivory Coast international out of the two-legged semi-final against Paris SG, scheduled for 1 and 7 May.

Still no Bundesliga goal this season

For the player, who comes from Vigneux-sur-Seine, facing a Paris club at this stage of the competition would have been a special occasion. Individually, too, this absence is a heavy blow. In a difficult season, Sébastien Haller has lost his place in Dortmund's starting line-up to German Niclas Füllkrug, who has stolen a march in that battle for a place, notably thanks to his fine performance against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. This season, Haller has played just 14 Bundesliga games, 5 of them as a starter. He is still looking for his first league goal as April draws to a close. This season has been a major blow for the African champion, who beat cancer and is now fighting for his future in the Dortmund squad.
