Didier Drogba is outraged. The former Ivorian striker cannot understand the severity of the punishment handed to his compatriot Eric Bailly. The Olympique de Marseille defender received a seven-match suspension for kicking Hyères midfielder Moussa Ndiaye during OM’s win (0-2) in the French Cup round of sixty-four (source notation:32es). “I find it very regrettable that the disciplinary committee has decided to suspend Eric Bailly for seven matches for this dangerous challenge,” the former Ivory Coast captain wrote on Twitter.

“What is the explanation?”

While he acknowledges that Eric Bailly’s challenge was dangerous, he believes it did not warrant such a severe punishment. According to the former Chelsea striker, other players responsible for similar incidents “received only two-match bans”. “What is the explanation?” asked Didier Drogba, who illustrated his message with two striking photographs.

One shows Zlatan Ibrahimovic kicking former Saint-Étienne goalkeeper Jérémie Janot. In the other, Wahbi Khazri was wiping his studs on Nantes player Nathan Zézé’s head. “The difference between the punishments is surprising, isn’t it?” the former Marseille player added indignantly.

Moussa Ndiaye was struck in the chest by the Ivory Coast international (46 caps, 2 goals). He spent several days in intensive care after the attack. Even so, Drogba believes the OM defender’s punishment was too harsh.
