Qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Fayçal Sawadogo, a young Burkinabè taekwondo athlete who begins his competition on 09 August in the under-80 Kg category, dreams of an Olympic medal at Paris 2024. In this interview, he talks about his preparations and, above all, his goals for these Games.
Tell us about your preparations for these Paris 2024 Games on your end?
Fayçal Sawadogo: My preparations started a very long time ago with my club in Germany. I was training two to three times a day, depending on how things were progressing and the scale of the work.
You begin your competition on 9 August. Are you confident?
Fayçal Sawadogo: I have prepared according to the realities and the ambitions. I hope I will rise to this big occasion. I am a believer, and I fear no one except my God.
What are your goals for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games?
The goal closest to my heart is, without any doubt, to win an Olympic medal for Burkina Faso at these Paris 2024 Games. I want Burkina to be written into the history of these Games forever. But this goal must not be just personal; it has to be shared, and everyone must do their part. Together we are more formidable.
Above all, can taekwondo put food on the table?
It is quite a complex combat sport that demands a lot of work and sacrifice before you can get anything out of it. Taekwondo can only provide a living when you are at the top of the discipline.
Any final words?
I would like to thank the Burkinabè people and all those who have always supported us and keep us in their prayers so that we can achieve our goals. May God bless our dear country!
