Just 4 months remain until we find out who the new president of the Congolese Football Federation will be. The election of the new Fecofa Executive Committee will take place on 30 May. Although candidacies have not yet opened, rumours about potential candidates are already circulating.
The big question is whether the former president, Constant Omari, will make a comeback. In an interview with Top Congo fm, Constant Omari spoke at length about the elections and what he thinks of them.
"We need a real leader at the head of FECOFA"
According to Constant Omari, Congolese football is suffering from a leadership problem that is being felt on every front. The next Fecofa president will have to be a man who can assert himself both nationally and continentally. "Someone with a strong character is needed, a real leader, because Congolese football is at its lowest level and has to be lifted up. The DR Congo's flagship clubs are fading away. Today the Fecofa leadership gets pushed around by any minister, it's sad. The DRC no longer exists at continental level. There is no more soft power in Congolese football today", he lamented.

"If I have to come back, I will say that I am coming back"
Constant Omari has not ruled out a return as head of Fecofa, even though he has not confirmed a candidacy. For him, the priority is to think about how to pull football in the DRC out of the pit it is in. "If I weigh it up and find that I need to come back, I will say it openly, that I am going to come back. But if I find that it is not important for me to return, I will not return. But the urgency is to save Congolese football, and everyone must feel concerned. Today the voice of Congo has been silenced, and that was done deliberately, they had to get rid of this giant. They did it, and today the voice of the DRC is no longer heard", he said.
Congolese football has been run for almost two years by a Normalisation Committee set up by FIFA. The submission of candidacies for the election of the new Executive Committee will begin on 22 April.
