The elections of the FECOFA Executive Committee are fast approaching. The big meeting is scheduled for May 20. The application procedure was opened this Sunday, April 5th and will close on April 20th. As the deadline approaches, the suitors jostle.

Mosengo-Omba and Mwehu: the two heavyweights
As soon as he left the CAF where he held the position of general secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba is announced with insistence as president of the FECOFA. If the concerned principal has not yet pronounced himself officially, his teams are already working behind the scenes for a successful campaign. In Congo, opinions differ on this potential candidacy: for some, he is the ideal candidate thanks to his address book and international influence. For others, his profile would not be suitable because, not residing in the DRC, he would ignore the deep realities of local football.

The current president of the LINAFOOT Management Commission is also being considered for the presidency. Although he maintains the suspense, the fact of not having applied for his own succession at the head of LINAFOOT raised a bug with sports analysts. His teams are already preparing the ground. After eight years at the head of the national championship, some Congolese believe that he has the necessary control to lead the Federation. Conversely, his critics point the finger at the numerous problems that occurred during his management of LINAFOOT, doubting his ability to redress the FECOFA.

Constant Omari’s relatives as outsiders
Other names mentioned include followers of the former president, Constant Omari. We find notably: Bobo Bondembe, former Vice-President in charge of finance under the Omari era. But also Patou Mangenda, former deputy general secretary of the FECOFA, who has already confirmed his intentions.

To date, only one application has been officially submitted to the general secretariat: that of Aziz Makukula. The former Portuguese international of Congolese origin, also close to Constant Omari, however, sees his approach sparked a lively controversy, some accusing him of having chosen to wear the colors of Portugal rather than those of the DRC during his playing career.
