How would you assess Central African Republic's involvement in the Sri Lankan edition of the FIFA Series, with the hosts, Bhutan and Papua New Guinea?

A positive one. First of all, the organisation was very tight. FIFA took care of the transport, the accommodation in Colombo – all four teams were staying in the same hotel, a very fine one at that – and the organisation on the ground, including the training slots. Everything went smoothly. On our side, we had to deal with the admin, such as the visas. We spent a week in Sri Lanka and I'm really pleased with the stay. Admittedly, it was hot and humid, but the overall picture is really positive. It was an interesting experience, one worth repeating.

On the pitch, in particular, with wins over Bhutan (6-0) and Papua New Guinea (4-0)…

Yes. It was important to win those two games in the FIFA Series. They were official matches, which will earn us points in the FIFA rankings. It's also good for confidence, ahead of our 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June against Chad and Ghana. We took these games seriously, against opponents who were new to us, because when Central African Republic play friendlies, they almost always face African sides.

"We made the most of these FIFA Series to work well"

What did you take from those two games?

The wins and the scorelines show that the players took things seriously. Even if some of them, and they'll know who they are, didn't necessarily show the attitude I was expecting. We faced unfamiliar opponents with very different styles. It was interesting to see how people reacted and how well they adapted against very different teams. I also took the chance to rotate the squad a little, particularly in attack. And what was also very important, on top of those two games, was being able to work on the tactical side in particular.

How were you welcomed in Sri Lanka?

Very well. The Sri Lankans are very hospitable. I also enjoyed the atmosphere in Colombo's old-fashioned stadium, a fairly relaxed atmosphere. We were able to go out on Saturday afternoon to see the capital. It was very interesting.

Do you have any information about the next edition of the FIFA Series?

It will take place in March 2026, from what I understand. There could also be more teams involved. I also get the impression that the groups might be rebalanced. In any case, I enjoyed it, and so did my staff and my players, taking part in this tournament in Sri Lanka.
