Three goals scored, none conceded: Génération Foot recorded the biggest win of the opening round of the Senegalese Ligue 1 on Saturday 17 October. At home, at the Djibril-Diagne stadium in Déni Birame Ndao, the club beat AS Pikine 3–0. The result puts them top after the seven matches played, ahead of US Gorée, Guédiawaye FC and Diambars, the three other winners on the opening weekend.
It is an advantage that belongs to an opening round. Génération Foot, Gorée, Guédiawaye and Diambars each have three points, and the gap lies in goal difference. With a three-goal margin over their opponents, Génération Foot are ahead of Gorée, who won 2–0 against Linguère. Guédiawaye won 2–1 against Dakar Sacré-Cœur, while Diambars triumphed 1–0 away at Essamaye.
Guédiawaye fight back, Diambars win on the road
Guédiawaye had to come from behind to make a successful start to the season. Dakar Sacré-Cœur had scored first, but Abdou Manga, from the penalty spot, and then Pape Idrissa Lô secured the win for the home side. The victory is worth the same three points as Génération Foot's, in a match that followed a different script.
Diambars, for their part, won the meeting of the two promoted clubs. Assane Ndaw scored the only goal of the match against Essamaye, in Ziguinchor. For these two teams, both starting their season in the top flight, the direct clash therefore went in favour of the visitors.
Three draws, one match postponed
Jaraaf and AJEL de Rufisque shared the points in a 1–1 draw. ASC HLM and Casa Sports scored more but could not be separated: 2–2. Wallydaan and Stade de Mbour finished 0–0. Each of these six teams takes one point.
The picture for this opening round remains incomplete: Teungueth FC–US Ouakam has been postponed. The two clubs have therefore yet to play their first league match. The early table has to be read with that difference in matches played in mind, without turning Génération Foot's place at the top into an established pecking order.
