With a markedly different squad from those of previous international windows and the return of a few players, including the long-awaited Mady Camara, Guinea were hoping to get their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign off to a good start.

Sadly, the Syli National lost to the Democratic Republic of Congo to a largely avoidable goal (1-0), then to Tanzania (1-2). A second defeat that leaves a stain on the campaign, even if the Tanzanians are a tricky side.
Dussuyer back with Paquille as assistant?
Against a very particular backdrop, with a fractured federation (a string of departures, resignations and sackings since Bouba Sampil's election as president in January), and one also marked by a still unresolved case of sexual abuse of minors, Guinea are looking for a new head coach to take charge of the next matches.
Placed in charge on an interim basis, former assistant Charles Paquille will not be kept on despite his good relationship with Michel Dussuyer, who returned to Conakry this summer at the head of a "transitional directorate". And while some already see the French coach as the stopgap on the bench for the game against Ethiopia in October, others at the federation have begun making contact with local and foreign coaches. The trend, however, is reportedly towards a duo with Dussuyer as head coach and Paquille as his assistant.
