The big clash between Olympique Marseille and Lyon has been postponed because of violent incidents. The OL team bus was pelted with stones. And Lille coach Fabio Grosso was seriously injured in the face. He suffered dizziness and multiple traumas. Central African international Geoffrey Kondogbia deplored the situation at a press conference on Thursday, 2 November. "We experienced it a bit like everybody else. It was a pretty nightmarish evening, which has no place at all in football. Something unacceptable. We tried to move on, even though it's not simple. We had to prepare our week for this match, which is very important for us," the OM midfielder said, condemning the incident.
Geoffrey Kondogbia continued: "There's a lot of frustration, disappointment, disgust. It was meant to be an evening of spectacle, something we were looking forward to. On the sporting side, we wanted to keep our run going. On the human side, it hit us hard. It's unacceptable. Afterwards, we're more used to seeing other images. We saw a really great image on Thursday (against AEK Athens, editor's note). Inside the stadium, it's always a sell-out, we have a crowd every time, magnificent supporters. This was outside the stadium, but it's still unacceptable for us."
The match remains postponed. But OL want it replayed because the players had nothing to do with it, says OL managing director Vincent Ponsot. In the meantime, Marseille, currently 9th in Ligue 1, aim to bounce back against Lille on Saturday in the 11th round of fixtures.
