With more court time in recent days, Jonathan Kuminga, who had been frustrated at one point by how he was being used, is growing in confidence. The day after his perfect night against Atlanta (25 points on 11/11 shooting), the Congolese player broke his career scoring record. Coming off the bench, the power forward scored 31 points in the Warriors' last-gasp defeat to the Kings on Thursday night (133-134).

The 21-year-old has scored 20 points or more in each of his last 5 games in the NBA. It is a surge that proves he was right to ask for more trust from his coach. At this rate, he could easily be in the running for the MIP award, which goes to the most improved player from one season to the next.

"JK was fantastic, he attacked the rim. That's where we want him, in the paint, because you can't stop him in that area. He's so powerful and athletic. I thought he was fantastic, so in control. I'm delighted with JK's progress, his maturity and his understanding of what's going on. It's wonderful to watch", said his coach Steve Kerr yesterday after the game against the Hawks.

Pascal Siakam is the only African player in the NBA to have won the MIP award, in 2019.
