There was no winner in Lubumbashi as TP Mazembe and Petro Luanda drew their quarter-final first leg in the Champions League of CAF. Neither side scored in the 90 minutes (0-0), leaving everything to play for in the return leg scheduled for 6 April.
Young Africans and Mamelodi Sundowns also played out a goalless draw. It was nevertheless a fiercely contested match. Sundowns dominated the play but came up against a solid Tanzanian defence.
Young Africans had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 68th minute. Kennedy Musonda found himself one-on-one with Williams, but the Sundowns goalkeeper made a fine save to rescue his team. The score remained unchanged. The South Africans will try to secure a place in the CAF Champions League semi-finals at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria.
Espérance de Tunis and Asec Mimosas were the other teams to finish level without scoring. Despite having 82% possession, the Tunisians could not beat an Ivorian side that resisted until the end. The two teams will therefore settle their CAF Champions League quarter-final in the return leg.
