Mamelodi Sundowns knock out Al Ahly

Al Ahly were chasing a 3rd consecutive title and a 6th consecutive Champions League final. The Cairo club will not set that record, because Mamelodi Sundowns stood in Al Ahly’s way. After the 0-0 in the first leg in South Africa, the two sides drew again (1-1). The away goal sends Sundowns through to the final. And it was an own goal from the unlucky Yasser Ibrahim that made the difference (90th). Yet it was the Egyptians who opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Taher Mohamed.

Winners of the CAF Champions League in 2026, Mamelodi Sundowns will try to win their second title.

Pyramids FC reach historic final

What a run from Pyramids FC! Knocked out in the group stage of the CAF Champions League last season, the Egyptian club have gone one better with a place in the final. On Friday, they eliminated Orlando Pirates with a hard-fought 3-2 win at the Stade du 3 juin. The 3rd goal, scored by Fiston Mayele (who netted twice) in the 84th minute, sends Pyramids FC into the final. In the first leg, it was a goalless draw.

This is a first for a club founded in 2008. They will make their Champions League final debut. They have already won the Confederation Cup in 2020.
