TP Mazembe were making their debut in the CAF Women's Champions League. And the Ravens had set themselves lofty goals. The first was to get out of the group stage. The Congolese side fell short, however. They finished third in Group B after a heavy defeat by Mamelodi Sundowns (4-0). It was a bitter pill to swallow for TP Mazembe coach Marcello Kadiamba.
"We have to admit that the occasion was spoiled for us. The result does not reflect our performance in the game at all," Kadiamba, who is also coach of the DR Congo women's national team, told CAFOnline.com. He added: "We congratulate Mamelodi Sundowns on their victory. Their individual quality spoke for itself. Apart from that, the result, as I said, did not reflect the match."

TP Mazembe had made a good start to the tournament, though. The UNIFAC champions had beaten Egypt's Wadi Degla (1-0). But they met stronger opponents in Group B. First came Bayelsa Queens (2-0), then Mamalodi Sundowns (4-0).
The Ravens leave the competition with huge regrets. "We have learned some lessons. In terms of the girls' individual performances, a lot of players did well. Against Mamelodi, we put on a good show. I didn't find them that strong, they can be beaten. Without certain questionable decisions, the result would have been different and it would also have unsettled my players, and we gave in to the pressure, " the TP Mazembe manager concluded.
