Senegal got their revenge in style! Beaten in their opening game by a surprise Mauritania side (2-5), the defending champions set the record straight in the final of the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON, claiming a record-extending eighth continental title. With this latest triumph, the Lions set a new all-time record and cement their status as the undisputed leaders. Worth noting: five consecutive titles, another record that underlines their dominance on African sand.
In a controlled final, the Senegalese took the initiative early and pulled clear thanks to Diagne in the 2nd minute, followed by Gadiaga (12th, 16th), Diatta (13th), Samb (15th) and Mandione (17th). Mauritania, despite an incredible run on their debut appearance, could only pull one back through Wedou in the 16th minute. By reaching the final, the Mourabitounes made a real splash and secured their place at the 2025 Beach Soccer World Cup, which will be held in Africa for the first time, in the Seychelles from 1 to 11 May, alongside Senegal.
A key man for the Lions and decisive again in the final, Jean Ninou Diatta shone, taking the player of the tournament award. Ghana's Alexander Adjei finished as top scorer, while Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed Elsayed received the best goalkeeper award. The fair play team of this edition is Egypt, the Pharaohs having only that honorary distinction as a consolation prize after their defeat to Morocco in the third-place play-off (3-4).
