England champions in 2016, Leicester went through the nightmare of relegation in 2022-2023. They are now playing in the Championship. A drop that might worry some, but not Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. Signed on loan from Sporting Club Portugal at the very end of the transfer window, the Ghana international has set himself a mission: to help get the club back up to the Premier League. "The goal is to go back to the Premier League. It's a great opportunity for me to help. For me, joining Leicester is a great achievement. When I heard they were interested, I was very happy because it was my dream to play in England," he told BBC Sport Africa.
A starter in Leicester's last four games, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has settled in well. He also provided his first assist on 1 October against Blackburn. "With what the manager has given me here, I feel so comfortable. It gives me confidence to do what I want. I like to go and try things. I like playing with the ball, I always want the ball, to run into space and create chances for the team. I thought that if I played with him (Maresca) in this role, it would be a good way for me to improve."

He has improved massively under the watch of Enzo Maresca in Leicester City.
Some of his major criticisms before moving to the English club were;
• Rushed decision making,
• Quickness to shoot from… pic.twitter.com/QLABKPf5aq— Bortey 🇬🇭 (@joelbortey) October 2, 2023
A player who was on the radar of leading English clubs
With 8 appearances (4 as a starter), Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is already on course for his first full season as a professional, having also played at the 2022 World Cup with Ghana. At 19, the Black Star (3 caps) is flourishing more and more in Leicester's style of play. At Sporting, he played 10 games last season (2 starts). Before that, the winger played in Ghana.
Furthermore, before Leicester, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku could have ended up playing in England. In November 2022, Portuguese outlet O Jogo claimed that Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were in the running for the Ghanaian gem. But for now, perhaps waiting for promotion with the Foxes or a move to a bigger club, the Ghanaian winger is going about his business.
