Akor Adams makes a flying start to his Ligue 1 adventure

Akor Adams was for a time a fixture of the transfer pages. Fans can now see why, with several clubs chasing him. He netted a brace on his first Ligue 1 appearance, earning Montpellier a point (2-2) against Le Havre. He first levelled for his side (58th min) before putting them ahead 2 minutes later. Unfortunately, Montpellier were pegged back in the 90th minute. The player is already showing his potential to anyone tempted to underestimate his performances in the Norwegian league with Lillestrom, where he scored 17 goals in 18 games last season.

The 23-year-old showed good reading of the game, with the quality of his runs, his pace and his heading in this match. Almost the complete package. Many are already saying the Nigerian is one of the players to watch this season.

The attitude shown by Nigerian Akor Adams (23) since his arrival gives Montpellier hope that they have unearthed a talented goalscorer. The brace scored in the opener against Le Havre (2-2) confirms that he has already adapted. https://t.co/KvpeVjabhh pic.twitter.com/iJ2s7fSspo

African goalscorers in Nantes-Toulouse

In the match between Nantes and Toulouse, which ended in defeat for Nantes (1-2), African players also stood out. Egyptian Mostafa Mohamed opened the scoring for the Canaris from the penalty spot in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, his goal proved academic, as his side were pegged back and then overtaken. Toulouse's equaliser came from Moroccan Zakaria Aboukhlal (62nd min). The winning goal was scored in added time by Rasmus Nicolaisen. Aboukhlal has therefore made a good start to a season in which he will look to build on his previous performances. He had scored 10 goals and provided 5 assists for Toulouse last season.

Salah and Maaziz also score in Ligue 1

On their return to Ligue 1, Metz lost to Stade Rennais (5-1). In this match Morocco international Ibrahim Salah scored Rennes' last two goals (87th and 94th min), despite coming on in the 85th minute. French-Moroccan midfielder Youssouf Maaziz also made his mark despite the defeat. He scored Metz's first goal of the season, which levelled things up for the Messins a minute after Rennes had opened the scoring (21st).

Another African player who stood out on Saturday 12 August, in the opening fixture, was Azzedine Ounahi, who scored a magnificent goal for Marseille with an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box to level against Reims. The Moroccan midfield metronome was generally given very good marks by the press. Marseille won (2-1).
