The Ivorian Football Federation issued a statement after the death of Sylla Moustapha on 5 March 2023 at the Stade Champroux, in the middle of a 20th-round Ligue 1 match. But FIF president Idriss Diallo wants more. He used a partnership signing on 8 March 2023 to return to the tragic passing of the Racing Club d'Abidjan player and to set out how the governing body will proceed.
"We experienced a tragic event last Sunday, which unfortunately gave rise to a macabre dance..... As president of the Ivorian Football Federation, I cannot run away from my responsibilities, but I have an obligation to act responsibly. We have asked the FIF medical commission to prepare a report, and that is what it is doing. Once it has all the elements, it will hold a press briefing, led by the president of the professional league, Salif Bictogo, and the president of the medical commission, with all the information available. What I ask for now is that we have the decency to respect the mourning of the family affected. Let us avoid drawing hasty conclusions on the basis of untrue information, rumours and unfounded remarks.
We will have the conclusions and responsibilities will be established, if there is responsibility, and sanctions will be imposed, if sanctions are due. If no sanctions are due, none will be imposed. There will be no witch-hunt," he said reassuringly. The president of the professional football league, Salif Bictogo, will face the press on 10 March 2023 to clear things up.
