On his debut at the New York Marathon, Kenya's Evans Chebet took the gold medal. The 34-year-old won in 2:08:41. Evans Chebet went to the front at the 32nd km after Brazil's Do Nascimento collapsed with cramps.

After that incredible scene, the Kenyan went straight on to victory for his second win of the year on American soil, following his triumph in Boston. Only Ethiopia's Shura Kitata was able to stay with his pace. He finished 13 seconds back, with a time printed as "2h08’54" in the original report. The Netherlands' Abdi Nageeye completed the podium with a time printed as "2h10’31". The final units of these compact timings are not explicitly labelled in the source.

Sharon Lokedi completes the Kenyan double

A Kenyan won the women's race as well. Her name: Sharon Lokedi. Locked in a tight battle with Israel's Lonah Chemtai Salpeter and Ethiopia's Gotytom Gebreslase until the 40th km, Sharon shook off her rivals two km from the finish line with a blistering surge. She won with a time printed as "2h23’23" in the original report. Lonah Chemtai Salpeter finished second with a time printed as "2h23’30". Completing the podium, Gotytom Gebreslase took 3rd place in 2:23:39. The final units of the first two timings are not explicitly labelled in the source.

The famous marathon, run through the streets of the Big Apple, was the last of the year, underlining Kenya's clear dominance this season. They won all 6 of 6 in 2022. Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge won in Tokyo (6 March) and then Berlin (25 September), Evans Chebet in Boston (18 April) before New York, Amos Kipruto in London (2 October) and Benson Kipruto in Chicago (9 October).

It is worth noting that this is the first time a nation has made a clean sweep since the world circuit was expanded to six races, with the addition of the Tokyo Marathon in 2013.
