Bryan Mbeumo put Manchester United ahead in the 73rd minute. The Cameroon international linked up with Cunha, turned, then converted with a low, across-goal finish.
The game appeared to be swinging United's way. Five minutes later, Tottenham were down to ten men after Bentancur was sent off. Spurs had also let chances go begging earlier in the match.
Yet United failed to close out the game. In the second minute of stoppage time, Solanke equalised with a header from a cross, even though his side were down to ten men.
The contrast sums up the night. Mbeumo did well to finish the move he built with Cunha: the link-up came before his turn and shot. He gave United the lead, then the extra man gave them a good platform to see the game out. The late equaliser is a reminder that a one-goal lead is not always enough. Protecting a score in the final minutes is a team effort.
The draw takes Manchester United to six points after six matches: one win, three draws and two defeats. Tottenham have three points, still without a win, with three draws and three defeats.
For Mbeumo, it remains the night he scored a fine goal. For Manchester United, it leaves a sobering lesson: with eleven men against ten and a one-goal lead, victory was far from assured.
