Ghana have a new talent, and Africa a new gem: Mohammed Kudus. The forward is shining brightly at this World Cup 2022. In two games, he already has 2 goals and 1 assist. His double against South Korea on Monday helped Ghana win 3-2 and keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stage. Safe to say the Black Stars are rubbing their hands.
Buoyed by a very good start to the season with Ajax (9 goals and 2 assists in 20 matches), Mohamed Kudus arrived at this World Cup in flying form. His team-mates, supporters and all observers are unanimous: he is the future of Ghanaian football. "He has a bright future ahead of him. We know it, I know it, Ghana knows it now, the world is going to know it," André Ayew told the press.
Facing Uruguay to "avenge" Gyan
Since his first cap on 14 November 2019, when he was only 19, Mohammed Kudus has played 20 games for Ghana. His record: 7 goals, 3 assists. Able to play across the whole front line, the 22-year-old offers a complete all-round game.
This Friday, then, expect the Uruguayan defence to mark him very tightly. But like all of Ghana, Mohammed Kudus will no doubt have a strong desire for revenge against La Celeste. The Uruguayans knocked Ghana out in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup, with Luis Suarez's infamous handball and the penalty missed by Gyan Asamoah. At the time, Kudus was only 10. Even so, he has surely etched that moment in his mind, hoping to give a whole nation its revenge.
