For the first time, Africa will have four teams at the U20 Women's World Cup. The competition has expanded from 16 to 24 teams. After the fourth round of qualifying, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon have booked their places at the 11th edition, scheduled for 31 August to 22 September in Colombia.

Nigeria, always present

In Colombia, Nigeria will make their 10th appearance at the U20 Women's World Cup. The Super Falconets secured their ticket by getting past Burundi in the fourth round of qualifying. After a fine win in the first leg (1-0), the Nigerians did the job at home by the same score. That was enough to take them through to the U20 World Cup. Twice finalists, the Super Falconets will try to win their first world title.

Morocco, a historic qualification

Women's football in Morocco is in good health. After the Atlas Lionesses finished runners-up at the Women's AFCON and the U17 side qualified for the World Cup, the U20 women's team have now achieved a fine feat of their own. Despite a defeat to Ethiopia in the second leg of the 4th round of qualifying, the Lionesses' cubs will play at the U20 Women's World Cup for the first time in their history. In the first leg, the Moroccans had beaten the Ethiopians (2-0).

Ghana, a second consecutive appearance

Ghana were flawless in these qualifiers for the U20 Women's World Cup. In the fourth round, the Black Princesses made light work of Senegal. At home, the Ghanaians thrashed the Senegalese (5-1). They had also done the bulk of the work in the first leg (2-0). Ghana will thus play at the World Cup for the second time in a row. Knocked out in the group stage at the last edition, the Ghanaians intend to do better in Colombia.

Cameroon, a first

Like Morocco, Cameroon will make their U20 Women's World Cup debut. In Alexandria, the Lionesses had given themselves a strong advantage. They had thrashed Egypt on their own pitch (4-2). On Sunday 21 January in Yaoundé, the Cameroonians settled for a draw against the Egyptians (1-1). That was enough to book their flight to Colombia. The qualification should do a lot of good for Cameroonian women's football, which is in the middle of a crisis. The Indomitable Lionesses failed to qualify for the Women's AFCON.
