The final line-up is set. South Africa join New Zealand in the hunt for another world title. The Springboks were favourites for this semi-final against England, who were the opponents in the 2019 final. South Africa had knocked out the hosts in the same stadium, in front of their home crowd. Now regarded as favourites for the tournament, Handre Pollard's team-mates struggled to get past the Red Rose.
Rudolph Snyman's decisive try
The Springboks defence was aggressive and effective, denying England a single try. Even while conceding 4 penalties and a drop goal from Owen Farrell, South Africa, on top of 3 penalties and a conversion, managed to cross for a try through Rudolph Snyman (69th minute). The try was the turning point of the match and let the South Africans take the lead and book their place in the World Cup final, with the chance to become the most successful nation in the competition.
