For Milwaukee, the 2026–2027 season opens a rebuilding project that the name of Giannis Antetokounmpo no longer sums up. The Greek has left for Miami, Tyler Herro has gone the other way and Taylor Jenkins takes charge. The Bucks must rediscover a collective structure while giving their new generation a real role.
The starting point: a team to relaunch
With 32 wins and 50 defeats, Milwaukee finished eleventh in the East in 2025–2026 and missed the playoffs. Antetokounmpo's departure therefore follows a season that was already difficult. Jenkins succeeds Doc Rivers with a twofold brief: make the group competitive every night and develop players whose responsibilities are not yet settled. Success cannot be measured solely by the April standings.

The summer: a trade that redistributes responsibility
The Bucks picked up Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakučionis in the deal with Miami, who also take Bobby Portis. Brayden Burries and Nate Ament bring two profiles from the 2026 draft. Caris LeVert adds an experienced creator. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Gary Harris and Taurean Prince are among the notable departures. Myles Turner, Ryan Rollins, Kyle Kuzma and Ousmane Dieng remain points of continuity amid the reshuffle.

The group’s attacking reference points
2025–2026 regular season, all teams combined. A documented selection of players with at least ten games; not an exhaustive ranking. The newcomers posted these figures before joining.
Herro, a go-to option to integrate without asking too much of him
Tyler Herro
Herro scored 20.5 points and averaged 4.1 assists per game in 2025–2026, in 33 games. He arrives as a significant scoring option, but leaving him to solve every possession alone would make the offence too predictable. Screens from Turner or Ware can open up shots and passing lanes. Secondary creation from Rollins, LeVert and Jaquez will also need to stop opposing defences from focusing all their efforts on the new guard.
Per-game average ratios for 2025–2026, not official shares of totals. Player and team have different numbers of games played; the new signing may have played for another club.
The projected starting five and heavy competition
Our season projection picks Ryan Rollins, Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kyle Kuzma and Myles Turner. This is a hypothesis about roles, not a starting five announced by Jenkins. Ware could challenge that set-up or bring his size off the bench. LeVert and Gary Trent Jr. offer experienced perimeter options. Burries, Ament, Jakučionis and Dieng will need useful minutes to develop, with no guarantee of playing time. The number of candidates is an asset, but it demands clear choices for the players.
The other rotation options
SNA season projection, not an official starting five or a guaranteed opening-night line-up. Roles and availability are detailed in the text and the dated update.

Strengths and risks: learning to defend together
The presence of Turner and Ware offers several ways to protect the rim. Herro and the secondary creators provide options for starting the offence, while the new arrivals from Miami already have common reference points. The main reservation is cohesion: defensive help, collective rebounding and transition defence have to be built with a reshaped team. Last season ended with 110.6 points scored per game. That figure describes the old team; it cannot be used to predict the new group's output.
Key foundations
- Herro as an offensive option.
- Turner and Ware to vary the line-ups.
- Young players to develop.
Areas to work on
- Building new cohesion.
- Protecting the perimeter and the boards.
- Making roles clear.
The ambition: let a team emerge before aiming for a ranking
Staying in the hunt for the play-in tournament would be possible progress. Before setting a target position, Milwaukee will have to identify the combinations that defend well enough while producing quality shots. For Jenkins, the challenge will be to keep demanding results without reducing the youngsters to occasional appearances. The progress of Ware, Burries and Ament will offer a second reading of the season, alongside the wins.
Staying in the race for the play-in tournament would be possible progress.
Roles and combinations will have to turn these ambitions into collective results.
Milwaukee will begin away at the Washington Wizards on 22 October at 0:00 in Brazzaville. The game is scheduled for 21 October in the United States. The preseason that precedes it does not count towards the regular-season record. Find the fixtures and results afterwards on the SNA NBA calendar.
