Eight goals in a game of twists and turns
Aston Villa struck hard in the first half. Alysson opened the scoring after a quick passing move, then created another dangerous situation that allowed Nicolas Jackson to double the lead. Trailing 0-2 within a few minutes, Manchester United responded through Bruno Fernandes, who converted a penalty awarded after a foul by Boubacar Kamara on Matheus Cunha.
Michael Carrick's side gradually took control of the game. Youri Tielemans levelled the scores in the 44th minute, turning in a cut-back from Noussair Mazraoui. At the break, the two sides were level (2-2).
But the script repeated itself after the restart. John McGinn put Aston Villa back in front from the penalty spot in the 48th minute, then Leon Goretzka took advantage of a scramble from a corner to make it 4-2 five minutes later.
Dorgu snatches equaliser in the final seconds
With victory seemingly in sight for the visitors, Manchester United refused to give in. Mason Mount first hit the post in the 89th minute. In added time, Joshua Zirkzee then pulled one back, before Patrick Dorgu sent Old Trafford wild by equalising in the closing seconds from a corner.
The share of the points nevertheless leaves United in a worrying position. For the first time since the 1972-1973 season, they have only one win after their first ten league matchdays. They remain 18th, in the relegation zone.
Aston Villa, for their part, extended their unbeaten league run to six games, with three wins and three draws. The point lifts them into the top half of the table. Bruno Fernandes was named man of the match.
