Bad luck really does seem to be dogging Samuel Eto'o. Cameroon's national teams are not winning. FIFA's Ethics Committee is looking into the contract he signed with a betting company. Fécafoot are losing every court case. Clubs have rebelled against him, threatening not to take part in the next season unless an audit of the sponsor's and the State's subsidies is carried out.
Corruption, death threats…
Against this tense backdrop, Henry Njalla Quan, vice-president of Fécafoot, has just published an explosive statement, making allegations of corruption, dirty tricks and threats that are said to have been orchestrated with the blessing of the president of the Cameroonian federation. The president of Njalla Quan Academy says he is the victim of "death threats, discrimination, absolute contempt and inhuman treatment" from employees, executives and close friends of Samuel Eto'o. Despite his attempts to flag these problems to the Fecafoot president, Mr Njalla Quan says nothing has been done to address them.
On 20 June 2023, he therefore decided to send a formal letter to the Fécafoot president. However, this move did not come without consequences. The letter's author stands accused of "treason" and of "holding secret meetings with President Eto'o's enemies". Njalla Quan denounces a strategy of division, cleverly devised by Samuel Eto'o "to rule as he pleases".
Reprisals
In reprisal for this letter, he says, on 28 June 2023 a "scandalous piece of refereeing" took place in the first leg of the South West Regional League semi-finals, in which his team faced Kumba City FC. "My innocent team [...] had 5 red cards, 6 yellow cards and 3 penalties given against us. As God would have it, we ended up losing only 1-0 despite this daylight robbery orchestrated by heartless criminals who run our football and close allies of the Fécafoot president", he said.
Faced with these accusations, Fécafoot remain silent. Yet Mr Njalla Quan says he raised these scandals at a forum of the federation's Executive Committee, but they were ignored. Given the lack of any response and the personal crusade being waged against his physical and moral integrity, he has decided to make public in the coming days a confidential letter he sent to Samuel Eto'o almost two weeks ago.
Sadly, this club official expects reprisals, even a suspension, removal from office or even attacks on his safety, given the many death threats he has received. He stresses that most of these threats began after he asked for details of the contracts linking Fécafoot to its sponsors. While urging FIFA, CAF and above all the Cameroonian government to investigate the problems in the national game, he warns that in the event of serious reprisals, all the evidence for the points raised in his letter will be released by people to whom he has entrusted this information. He therefore calls on the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal action.
