PSG arrive in Strasbourg on the back of a prestige victory, but with their league position still short of where they want it. The trip to the Meinau on Saturday 17 October, in Ligue 1 Matchday 7, should show whether the momentum from Manchester can produce a result in a very different setting. Kick-off is at 15:15 UTC, which is 16:15 in Brazzaville.

Momentum to confirm on two fronts

Paris beat Manchester City 4–2 at the Etihad in midweek. In Ligue 1, the Parisians are also on a run of three consecutive wins, including a 3–1 victory over Le Mans. They go into the weekend on 11 points from six games: their recovery is under way, but it still demands consistency.

Our reading of this game rests on the difference between a successful European night and a long-distance race. Confidence is an advantage if it helps a team play the right way; it is less useful if it leads them to underestimate an away trip. For Paris, control will also be judged on how they handle turnovers and the quieter spells in a game.

The Meinau remains a stronghold

Hugo Oliveira's Strasbourg have 7 points. Their last two outings, against Paris FC and then Nice, both ended in 2–1 defeats. That run weakens their overall record, but it does not sum up their home form: Racing remain unbeaten at home in the league this season.

That contrast is what makes the fixture interesting. Strasbourg need to pick up points without mistaking the backing of their crowd for a guarantee of a result. Against Paris's individual quality, every ball given away too cheaply can prove costly. Equally, if the Alsatians force Paris to defend long spells and keep repeating their efforts, they can make this game far less comfortable than their opponents' prestige suggests.

Hakimi in the squad, Luis Enrique's choices awaited

Achraf Hakimi is among the 21 players selected by Luis Enrique. The Morocco international is therefore available in the Paris squad; his role in the starting XI remains to be confirmed. The group also includes Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Vitinha and João Neves.

After the European fixture, the distribution of minutes will be one to watch. Paris's priority remains clear: to keep their collective quality despite any changes. Strasbourg, for their part, are looking for a result that can end their poor run while extending their resistance at the Meinau.
