For its broadcasts of the 2022 World Cup matches, Télé Congo teamed up with Sport News Africa to put together programming around the 28 matches for which the channel had acquired rights. The idea was to offer resolutely innovative content on a scale new to Congo, and to the African continent as a whole, with three live daily slots to get sports fans buzzing to the rhythm of the World Cup.

3 original shows designed and produced by Sport News Africa

Three shows were created under this partnership: the Before, Qatar Club and the Matinale. All three were designed to go out live and set the daily rhythm for football fans in Congo throughout the tournament. The Before was conceived as the pre-match show, setting the scene ahead of kick-off in every game broadcast on Télé Congo. Qatar Club was the big daily show for keeping up with all the World Cup news, with a programme every evening after the day's last match devoted entirely to the games that had been played. The Matinale was the show for early risers: a talk-format programme to start the day by looking at what was at stake in the matches ahead.

Sport News Africa built a dedicated team in record time!

To carry out the assignment, a Sport News Africa team made up of directors, graphic designers, visual effects operators and editorial managers was sent on site for the whole of the 2022 World Cup. They had to create, install and test all the branding, sets and visual elements, while also preparing the content of the shows in consultation with the technical teams and the sports department at Télé Congo. Seasoned pundits were also brought in to share their expertise with Congolese viewers and so raise the quality of the debates.

Sport News Africa's marketing teams also contributed to this large-scale project by approaching numerous sponsors and partners across a range of sectors, who chose to link their names and those of the brands they represent to the various shows produced and broadcast on Télé Congo. The highlight of the whole operation was the introduction of HD, a first for the national channel, on the eve of the World Cup kick-off. It meant that Congolese sports fans could follow the 2022 World Cup and the shows in high-definition picture.

A fruitful collaboration that points to more!

From the World Cup opening match, viewers' first feedback was positive, with many noting the technical improvements and new features. That continued right through to the final, which saw Argentina lift the trophy. At the end of the tournament, the Minister of Communication and Media, Thierry Moungalla, with whom Sport News Africa signed this implementation contract for the World Cup, received the teams on site to congratulate them on their work and on the support of Télé Congo over more than a month. Pleased with the results, he opened the door to future collaborations on similar projects.
