The 2025 BAL had one standout performer: Jean-Jacques Boissy. He carried his team to the title and became the first Senegalese player in history to win the Basketball Africa League. The level he showed at the 2025 BAL was no fluke.
"I think it means a lot to me. My teammates and the coaches encouraged me every day. I learned a lot from them. I'm very happy to represent Africa now. I think if I made it, every child here can make it. It's the reward for hard work," he told Jolofsport.

Jean-Jacques Boissy, a pure product of the NBA Academy Africa
At the age of 15, Jean-Jacques Boissy, son of former professional basketball player Elysée Boissy, chose basketball after playing American football. He joined the renowned NBA Academy Africa in Saly, Senegal, where he came through the ranks.
After his time at the NBA Academy Africa, Boissy had his sights set on US college basketball. With no offers coming in, he turned to a plan B. He headed to Rwanda to join the African Leadership University on its campus in 2019. Dazzling with Patriots BBC, the Senegalese point guard caught the eye of United Generation Basketball Club in the Rwandan league, who signed him. And that is where it all started.
A short spell in Spain
After his Rwandan adventure, Jean-Jacques Boissy returned to Senegal with SIBAC in 2020. A season after arriving, and thanks to his fine performances, the Senegalese point guard made a big leap by signing in Spain. He joined CB Cornellà in the Spanish third division in 2021.
Jean-Jacques Boissy spent only one season in Spain (2020-2021). It was an experience that helped him step up several levels in his young career.
A BAL final lost in 2023
Having gained experience at CB Cornellà, Boissy put it to use for AS Douanes, a Senegalese club. In 2023, he joined the Senegalese side and exploded. He won the Coupe Saint-Michel, scoring 28 points in the final against ASC Ville de Dakar. He was also his team's spearhead at the 2023 BAL.
From 2023, Jean-Jacques Boissy made a name for himself in the BAL. He came within a whisker of the title that year. After posting 15 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in the Conference final against US Monastir, the Senegalese repeated the feat in the play-off semi-finals against Petro de Luanda. He scored 28 points, allowing his team to play in the first BAL final in its history.
His 20 points in the 2023 BAL final were not enough against Al Ahly of Cairo. AS Douanes lost 65-80 at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. As in 2025, Boissy was named to the All-BAL First Team and the All-Defensive Team.
Besides the clubs mentioned, Jean-Jacques Boissy has also played for Aurore Vitré Basket (France) in 2023, Urunani (Burundi) in 2024 and Rwanda Energy Group in 2025. He left the Rwandan club for Al Ahli Tripoli. A few months later, he won the 2025 BAL as the main architect of the triumph. A Senegal senior team player since June 2022, he took part in the FIBA U18 African Championship in 2018 and the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2019 at youth level.
