Mauritania are out of the UFOA-A Under-20 tournament. The draw between Senegal and Sierra Leone (0–0) on Thursday 22 October in Bamako settled the final standings in Group B: Senegal finish top with four points, ahead of Sierra Leone on two points. The Mourabitounes stay third with one point.
Campaign ends after two matches
The Mauritanian side had already played both of their games. Beaten 2–1 by Senegal in their opener, they then drew 2–2 with Sierra Leone on Monday 19 October at the Mamadou-Konaté Stadium.
In that second match, Mauritania equalised after going behind, then took the lead in the second half. The late goal they conceded cost them a win and left them relying on the final result in the group.
Draw sends Sierra Leone through
Guinea-Bissau's withdrawal had cut the group to three teams. With a bye on the final matchday, Mauritania could no longer improve their record. The point Sierra Leone took against Senegal lifts them above the Mourabitounes and into the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will pit Senegal against Guinea and Gambia against Sierra Leone. Mauritania therefore leave the race to qualify for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations 2027.
