A great first in the Premier League
If many players take the time to find their feet in the Premier League, considered the best championship in the world, everything went at lightning speed for El Hadji Diouf, who made a decisive pass in his second match with West Ham in the London derby against West Chelsea (1-5).
The Senegalese has remained consistent throughout the season, with an incredible game intelligence, allowing him to combine overtaking and defensive strength effectively. El Hadji Malick Diouf will have played 32 Premier League games with the Hammers, including 30 as a starter, proof of his consistency and immediate impact.
With his 5 assists, Diouf had a great first season at West Ham, even if it was not rewarded by a collective success, following the descent into the Championship due to the questionable choices of the management of the London club. The Senegalese can be proud of his first exercise in England, and even consider a future away from London Stadium.
Towards an inevitable departure?
Last summer, Diouf did the big one except by leaving the Slavia Prague for West Ham. At the time, the Senegalese international (18 capes, 1 goal) was joining a team for which maintaining one’s position was not an insurmountable task at the time. But the chronic instability on the bench of the Hammers with the departure of Graham Potter, three months after his arrival, completely upset the season of the London club.
Nuno Espirito Santo, appointed to restart the machine was not successful either, and West Ham continued to sink to the point of being relegated to the Championship, after 14 consecutive seasons in the Premier League. A failure that reshuffles the future of El Hadji Malick Diouf and several other players, even though his contract is still in effect until 2030.
Indeed, the left-back has a very promising future, but he is already an important player in the national team, even if he still has to deal with the competition from Ismail Jakobs. Evolving in the second division could break the pace of Diouf’s progression and demote him to the national team, beyond the fact that he will play in a championship erased by the media coverage around the Premier League.
Moreover, El Hadji Malick Diouf does not lack courtiers since Manchester United would be interested in his profile, according to information from the Guardian. Still in the Premier League, Chelsea also follows the Senegalese. The World Cup with Senegal is another springboard to expose themselves a little bit and attract the attention of major European clubs.
