Ons Jabeur just can't get it done in finals. The Tunisian has lost again in the final at Wimbledon. She was beaten in straight sets by the Czech Marketa Vondrousova (6-4,6-4).
It was a tense final in which both players, nervous, struggled to settle. And Ons Jabeur may have regrets. She let the first set slip after starting the match well. The Tunisian even led 4-2 but struggled to consolidate. Very solid, the Czech took advantage of Jabeur's errors on serve. The world No. 42 levelled and broke the best African player (5-4). Unflappable, she held serve and took the first set (6-4). Ons Jabeur finished the opening set with 13 unforced errors.
At the start of the 2nd set, Jabeur gave herself a scare by dropping serve. But the Czech failed to consolidate the break and the Tunisian got back to 1-1. She broke her opponent at 3-1 but again missed the chance to consolidate her lead. Tense, off the mark on her backhand and with more than 14 unforced errors, Ons Jabeur was broken again in the closing stages. And Vondrousova did not pass up the opportunity. The 24-year-old served for the match and won it. She thus becomes the first unseeded player to win Wimbledon. Devastated, Ons Jabeur is not letting it get her down, though. She promises to come back even stronger.
