Looking for a new winger, Liverpool has targeted several players including Minteh. For the path leading to the Gambian gem, the Reds have encountered a categorical refusal from the Seagulls. The case would be considered closed.
Talks at a standstill
For weeks, Liverpool tried to pursue the Yankuba Minteh route. The latter has the advantage of knowing the Premier League and would no longer need time to adapt. It’s for this reason that the Merseyside club pushed to sign the 22-year-old player despite his current injury.
Liverpool made two offers considered insufficient by Brighton. The Seagulls set the bar very high by demanding 80 million pounds sterling. Such an amount discouraged the Reds, who have reportedly withdrawn from the case. According to numerous English sources, this transfer has fallen through. The club based at Anfield Road has no intention of returning before the end of the transfer window.
Yankuba Minteh still in Brighton's plans
Ranked eighth last season, Brighton wants to do better. And that involves keeping its key players, including Yankuba Minteh. The management certainly demanded 80 million pounds sterling to ward off serious contenders like Liverpool.
In a press conference, Fabian Hürzeler, the Seagulls' coach, clarified the future of the native of Bakoteh. The management does not plan to sell him this summer; the German coach confirmed it.
“Yankuba Minteh is a Brighton player and for now, there's nothing more to say. What I admire about him is that once this window closes, he will be fully committed to this club.,” he made clear.
On August 8 during a pre-season friendly against AS Roma, Minteh was injured in the ankle and the leg. Having undergone surgery at the beginning of August, he will be sidelined for 2 to 3 months. Without him, the Seagulls have started the season in spectacular fashion. They thrashed both Aston Villa and Tromsø IL by the same score (4-0), respectively in the Premier League and in the Europa Conference League.
